First Ever Blog Giveaway

Hello all!
Thought I'd let you in on what is soon to be uploaded into the MadeIt shop.

Plastic Owl Brooches

These sweet little brooches are made from white plastic, with each design being hand drawn by myself. They have a little brooch back glued securely to the back of the piece. These look great pinned onto jackets! I wear mine pinned to my big black coat (which I wear daily) and it is still in very good condition. My little owlies will only set you back $6 each and come already packaged, which is perfect for gift giving!

To go into the draw to get your mitts on a Plastic Owl Brooch before they hit the interwebs, simply answer this question correctly:

On which show does the phrase, "The owls are not what they seem." come from?

What A Hoot Indeed!

So this morning I logged into Myspace and had a message from a friend waiting for me - "I think your little owl badge things were in this magazine Peppermint, yes?". Surely not! I only bought that magazine two days ago and I've read it front to back, inside out (I may or may not have drooled, squealed, sighed and shouted over all the amazing bits and pieces they had in there.) As it turns out, my felt owl brooches do have a little place in the magazine, on the page titled "What a Hoot", which features a whole heap of owly-goodies. What an honour.

If you haven't read the magazine, please go grab yourself a copy! http://www.peppermintmag.com/

Cheap and Cheerful Stud Earrings

Okay. So I admit I have a bit of an earring making/wearing addiction. Currently I have several small bowls full of button stud earrings - they are just my favourite accessory!

Created from new, vintage and vintage-inspired buttons, these studs are the perfect way to finish off an outfit. Choose from styles that your Nanna would be proud of, loud 80's-like numbers and some more quirkier pieces such as the panda-face studs (shown above).

There are many designs to choose from, and many are one-offs or part of a limited run; however if you see a pair that has been sold and you missed out, please message me and I will see if I can recreate another pair just for you!

Prices range from a tiny $3 a pair to around $10 a pair.

The Owls Are Not What They Seem

I absolutely adore owls. Therefore, I just couldn't resist making felt owl brooches to pop on my favourite cardigans and jackets. You can wear them too, if you pop on over to the Madeit website and snaffle up one or two for a mere $20 a pop. They come in different colourways too, so it's easy to pick a favourite or match it with your outfit.

Animal Pendant Necklaces

My signature Animal Pendant Necklaces have just been re-uploaded to the Madeit website. These pieces are what orginally kick-started my label, beginning with a fawn pendant necklace I had made for myself.
So for only $30 each, why don't you celebrate your love for animals with these realistic animal charm pendants, which are guaranteed to turn heads and win you comments galore!
The pendant is hung from a fine sterling silver-plate chain (total length 60cm) and is finished with a sterling silver-plated parrot clasp and connecters.

All items will be packaged and posted along with a business card in a secure bubblewrap-lined postpack. I am more than happy to combine postage for customers.

*Purchase two animal pendant necklaces and receive 20% off your total order!

About The Label

How did Pannikin come about?

I started the label in 2007 as a creative outlet where I could share my love of cute and quirky handmade accessories with friends and others. Since then, Pannikin has offered up an array of kitsch necklaces, button stud earrings, brooches, purses, bags and more. All items are created by myself in Brisbane, Australia and because of this, many items are one-offs or part of a very limited run.

I believe it is very important for people to support handmade and not buy their entire wardrobe from chainstores, where everything is mass produced and usually features poor quality materials, whereas hand-crafted items are made with love, care and attention to detail. Not only that, but do you really want to be the one to wear the same necklace or carry the same handbag as everyone else?

Where does the name come from?

Pannikin is the name of the street I grew up in as a little girl and as a consequence I have many fond memories of the place. You could find me playing in the garden wearing colourful dresses (usually handmade by my mum), hosting tea parties and picnics or drawing lots of animal pictures.

These memories are the basis of what my label is all about. I love vintage and vintage-inspired objects - whether they be buttons, lace, knick-knacks, dresses etc. Many of my pieces feature animals, vintage illustrations, moody clouds and teeth, owls, hand-drawn images and other sweet things.

Where can you find my work?

You can purchase my items from www.madeit.com.au/pannikin. Made It is a great website for those who want to buy Australian handmade items. Sporadically I will hold market stalls - stay tuned to find out when the next one will be, as some items are reduced in price for the day. Myspace folk can be my friend too! Just head on over to www.myspace.com/pannikin_accessories. If you would like to contact me, please send your emails to pannikin_accessories@hotmail.com.
