What's In Your Market Bag?

If you went to the BrisStyle Indie Twilight Markets last night, what lovely handmade items did you end up buying?

Personally, I'm usually good and don't wander from my little stall, but this is the second time I've been able to share co-op space with the ever delightful Melinda from one of my favourite labels, Moose and Bird. (You may know her by the super-squishy pear pillow that was featured in Frankie magazine)

Anyway, long story short, at the end of the night I ended up buying my own cuddly pear, in a very fresh assortment of orange and pink toned fabric - you know, as a housewarming present to myself, even though it hasn't been confirmed that I will be moving house yet!

Here is an idea of what my pillow looks like (the picture is from one of Melinda's Etsy listings, so all photo credit goes to her).

BrisStyle Twilight Market Wrap Up

Good morning darlings!

Did anyone come along to the BrisStyle Indie Twilight Markets last night? Boy oh boy it was so much fun! Hope all you enjoyed it and treated yourselves to a few of the amazing creations by some of our talented Brisbane Etsy sellers.

It was great to see some familiar faces and some not-so-familiar ones. Meeting new people is one of my most favourite things about holding a market stall - so if you haven't introduced yourself yet, I'd love to get to know you!
I'd also like to take a moment to thank the organisers and creators of BrisStyle, for their great markets and all of the promoting/advertising they do - it's an enormous job and they do it fantastically with a smile.

Also, thanks to those who help set up tables and marquees and lighting (seriously, could you imagine me trying to do that, what with my spaghetti arms and short-ness? Haha)

Thank-you to my fellow sellers, who are creative, funny, great to get along with, good for chats and helping out.

Oh, and how could I not thank my Mum? She helped me drag my two trollies full of goodies and display equipment to the site and helped set up my stall. She also did a good job of calming me down after the taxi company stuffed me around for a good 45 minutes beforehand.

Last but not least, thank-you to all the visitors, customers, buyers and appreciators of handmade. Pannikin would not be here without you guys!

Here are some quick pics from the night:

See you all at the next market!

Last Minute Preparation for the BiTM!

Yessiree, I'm doing last minute preparation for tonights BrisStyle Indie Twilight Market.

Don't worry, I'm all packed and ready to go with a whole wodge of fun things to sell, but this is the time where I have 3 hours left and wonder if I could churn out a few new products (I'm making stickers as we speak!)

So with my spare time I thought I'd quickly show off some snaps of the latest additions to the market bag. (Or should I say, Nanna trolley x 2?)

Fabric 25mm badges - The kawaii kitties are my absolute favourites!

Clip on bowties/bow brooches.

Talk Crafty To Me

Hooray! My new 'Talk Crafty To Me' tote bags arrived yesterday!
I'll be wrapping them up all pretty-like with new Pannikin swing-tags and embroidery thread this morning, all ready for the BrisStyle Indie Twilight Market, which is on the Friday 30th July from 5pm-9pm. It's being held at King George Square, which is super convenient for most people, especially those who work in the cityor whorely on public transport (like myself)

I'll be in the co-op again, with lots of other wonderfully creative people to keep me company. If you're in town, be sure to swing by and say hello!

Free Gift With Purchase!

Who doesn't love a freebie?

Well, when you spend over $15 in either my Etsy or MadeIt shop, you will receive a complimentary art postcard featuring an illustration by yours truly.

The free postcard offer is available from the 1st of August 2010 - 31st August 2010 inclusive. Only one postcard per order.
Also I would like to publicly apologise to Sarah Hazlehurst of Ahoy Dear Sailor (a favourite Brisbane label of mine) for offering Scrabble Rings as a free gift with purchase, which was announced earlier this week on this blog. As she herself sells these rings, I have personally apologised to her with utmost sincerity and have removed both the blog post and gift with purchase offer.

Dinotopia

For those who haven't stumbled upon my collection of Dinotopia necklaces, let me introduce you to them.

The plastic dinosaur pendant has been created from a children's toy and hangs from a 60cm long fine black-nickel chain and is finished with a small black-nickel clasp.

I think these would be perfect for those aspiring paleontologists in your life, self-confessed geeks or for those who get all nostalgic over Jurassic Park.

Sam Neil, eat your heart out...

Marky Markets Wrap Up

Greetings and salutations!

It's been a while since my last post but I think I have a pretty good reason - I got to do my market stall at the Marky Markets last Sunday! Wee!

I have spent the past two weeks or so madly creating, packaging and all the little odds and ends that come along with preparing for a market stall, in between almost-full-time work and spending time with friends. How I manage to eat anything I don't know, I sure know I don't get much sleep though! It feels great to be busy though.

A big thank-you goes out to the organisers, the stall holders, the helpers and (how could I not forget!) you guys! Without you, Pannikin would not be what it is today, or what it could become down the track.

Merci beaucoup, mon cheries!

Making: Bowties

Yes indeedy, I was up late-ish last night sewing up quite a few bowties, using only recycled thrifted fabrics, whether they be from old ties, pretty floral pillowcases or the left overs from hemming my vintage dresses.

So far I count five that are complete save for the brooch back that needs to be hand-sewn on last, which I like to do while watching movies or Twin Peaks. All I have to do then is try to not get sucked into the story and keep that needle moving!

The bowties will be for sale at both the Marky Markets on Sunday 18th July and BrisStyle Twilight Market on Friday 30th July. Any left-overs will be listed online.

What is your latest sewing creation?

Craft Talk

Craft Talk Badges (25mm) - Purchase these on Etsy or MadeIt
I've been getting back into drawing lately, which is rather grand because it's something I have always loved to do but since working pretty much full time I've found I have fewer hours to sit down and put pen to paper.

So when I have a bit of spare time, I've taken to drawing a few crafty items, which are scanned and printed out in mini size, and then turned into nifty little badges to wear on my coat. I hope you like them too. What's best is that there are more designs to come, yippee!

Pssst! Two packs of these craft-talk badges are available at Brisbane's in.cube8r.

in.cube8r

Good evening all. Just thought I'd quickly share with you some most wonderful news!

Pannikin now has a little home over at Brisbane's in.cube8r!

Today was the first day of stocking my little cube and boy was I excited. Since hearing about in.cube8r in Melbourne I had always wanted to sell there, but never went through with the whole 'interstate' thing. But now that a new one has opened up in Fortitude Valley I jumped at the chance.

Now, as there is already quite a large range of jewellery on offer, Vicki (owner/manager/all round lovely lady) has kindly requested some alternative items for me to stock - which is really great because it means I have to get out of my comfort zone and start selling more pieces that include my personal artwork. So far, my cube holds three different tote bag designs, two packs of illustrated badges (featuring crafty items!) and some postcards/notecards. Over the next couple of weeks I aim to add a new tote bag design, lots more postcards, fridge magnets and perhaps even stickers!
Now, I just realised I let myself waffle on a little too much, but as I said, I'm just a wee bit excited!
Oh, and I would also like to sneak in a big thank-you to my lovely boyfriend Tom for lending a hand with carrying all my bits and pieces, for the help with cube set-up and for being ever-so-patient with me when making just one last something-or-other.

For a bit of extra good news, I managed to swap my shifts around so that I can attend the Marky Markets! (If my application is accepted, of course!)

Marky Markets

Fingers crossed, people!

I've been having a bit of trouble lately with getting days off work to participate in various markets.
From now on I am prepared to fight long and hard for my right to skip work and flog my handmade wares to the Brisbane public, since completely missing out on last Sundays Suitcase Rummage (save for a super quick lunchbreak-chat with fellow stallholders, including my housemate Tess of A Beautiful Calamity, who kindly offered to sell my badges while I worked for the man)

Therefore, I kindly request that you all join me in super-tight-finger-crossing that I can have my own stall at the next Marky Markets market. Phew! Tongue twister!

Marky Markets are all about vintage and handmade everything. The last market was at the Boundary Hotel in West End, but has since confirmed a new location - The HiFi in West End and is expected to be bigger and better!

The details:

What: Marky Markets
Entry: Free
Where: HiFi - West End
When: Sunday 18th July 2010
Time:11am - 5pm

PS. If you are keen to have a stall, shoot them a quick email before all the places are snapped up! It's bound to be a whole lot of fun.

Screenprinted Bags

Hello lovelies!

I really must apologise for being away from this blog for such a long, long time. Lots of things have changed, some things have stayed the same but best of all, I have new products to share with you all! Hip, hip hooray!

Above are the current three tote bag designs that are now available to purchase off Etsy as well as MadeIt. Yes, Pannikin is back to selling on MadeIt.com.au! Why? Well, while it's important to support handmade, it's even better to support Australian handmade!

Here is the link to my MadeIt store:

And my Etsy store, just in case you haven't visited in a wee while:
