My Sweet Wren

It was all squeals of glee when I discovered a lovely shop by the name of 'My Sweet Wren' on Etsy last week. It's the kind of store where you basically want to buy everything for sale because it is just all sorts of wonderful (but that would be greedy now, wouldn't it?).

The team (from Melbourne, Australia) describe themselves on their profile as "suckers for vintage loveliness, faded glory and whippets. We wished we could have been ballerinas purely for the tutus. We like to stitch and to paste. We love old reference books, vintage haberdashery, the word haberdashery, Spring, bluebells and sweet wrens."

Anyway, my little parcel arrived in the mail a few days ago - look what I scored!

Vintage Ephemera Sampler

Over 100 Vintage Atlas Rounds

I'll definitely be back for more - opening their beautifully packaged goodie bags was, dare I say it, better than Christmas.

And The Winner Is...

Congratulations to Micky of 'The Handmade Expo' blog, who scored a polymer clay doughnut pendant which has been described as "tasty enough to eat!" just by answering this question:

If you could invent any kind of doughnut flavour, what would it be?
Answer: I would like to taste a choc-mint flavoured doughnut - YUMMO!

Micky will soon be receiving her very own doughnut pendant via the postal service very shortly. Hooray!

New Product!

A long while back I was selling lasercut acrylic necklace pendants and to my delight I found two of them hiding in the studio (aka my bedroom). The white meat cleaver you see above has been uploaded to the MadeIt website. If you'd like a better look, just click here.

A black sewing machine pendant has been sent on over to the creators of 'Therefore" magazine to soon be used as a giveaway along with a little feature of yours truly.

Please keep an eye out for this little handmade mag, as I've been told that issue 1 is almost ready to be published and I'm sure it's going to be amazing. If you'd like more information, pop on over to the blog: thereforemagazine.blogspot.com. They are a lovely team and are ever so friendly, so don't shy - say hello!

New Plastic Brooch Designs!

I've turned more of my hand-drawn art into plastic brooches. This range will feature a menagerie of animals, mainly of the woodland type (my favourites). At the moment I am in the middle of creating a Vampire Bat head design for my lovely new acquaintance, Nick. If you would like to suggest an animal, please do! What A Hoot Indeed!

So this morning I logged into Myspace and had a message from a friend waiting for me - "I think your little owl badge things were in this magazine Peppermint, yes?". Surely not! I only bought that magazine two days ago and I've read it front to back, inside out (I may or may not have drooled, squealed, sighed and shouted over all the amazing bits and pieces they had in there.) As it turns out, my felt owl brooches do have a little place in the magazine, on the page titled "What a Hoot", which features a whole heap of owly-goodies. What an honour.

If you haven't read the magazine, please go grab yourself a copy! http://www.peppermintmag.com/

There are many designs to choose from, and many are one-offs or part of a limited run; however if you see a pair that has been sold and you missed out, please message me and I will see if I can recreate another pair just for you!

Animal Pendant Necklaces

My signature Animal Pendant Necklaces have just been re-uploaded to the Madeit website. These pieces are what orginally kick-started my label, beginning with a fawn pendant necklace I had made for myself.
So for only $30 each, why don't you celebrate your love for animals with these realistic animal charm pendants, which are guaranteed to turn heads and win you comments galore!
The pendant is hung from a fine sterling silver-plate chain (total length 60cm) and is finished with a sterling silver-plated parrot clasp and connecters.

About The Label

How did Pannikin come about?

I started the label in 2007 as a creative outlet where I could share my love of cute and quirky handmade accessories with friends and others. Since then, Pannikin has offered up an array of kitsch necklaces, button stud earrings, brooches, purses, bags and more. All items are created by myself in Brisbane, Australia and because of this, many items are one-offs or part of a very limited run.

I believe it is very important for people to support handmade and not buy their entire wardrobe from chainstores, where everything is mass produced and usually features poor quality materials, whereas hand-crafted items are made with love, care and attention to detail. Not only that, but do you really want to be the one to wear the same necklace or carry the same handbag as everyone else?

Where does the name come from?

Pannikin is the name of the street I grew up in as a little girl and as a consequence I have many fond memories of the place. You could find me playing in the garden wearing colourful dresses (usually handmade by my mum), hosting tea parties and picnics or drawing lots of animal pictures.

These memories are the basis of what my label is all about. I love vintage and vintage-inspired objects - whether they be buttons, lace, knick-knacks, dresses etc. Many of my pieces feature animals, vintage illustrations, moody clouds and teeth, owls, hand-drawn images and other sweet things.

Where can you find my work?

You can purchase my items from www.madeit.com.au/pannikin. Made It is a great website for those who want to buy Australian handmade items. Sporadically I will hold market stalls - stay tuned to find out when the next one will be, as some items are reduced in price for the day. Myspace folk can be my friend too! Just head on over to www.myspace.com/pannikin_accessories. If you would like to contact me, please send your emails to pannikin_accessories@hotmail.com.
