Finders Keepers HERE I COME!

So I may be a little behind in letting blog-land in on my latest news these days but I think I should mention that I have been accepted as a stall holder for Brisbane's Finders Keepers Market in November! Powpow!

I've actually taken a nice solid week off work to prepare for the market so expect to see a flurry of posts documenting my prep. For example, I have been drawing cameras and spectacles all morning to create new badges, postcards and fridge magnets. As you can see, I have fallen a little bit in love with the Hipstamatic app for iPhone, as it makes any quick snaps I take for documenting purposes look half-way decent!
Other illustrations in the works include perfume atomisers for the ladies and smoking pipes for the lads. I'm aiming to draw an array of vintage/retro items that take my fancy, so here's hoping you all like typewriters!

Coming To Valley Laneway Markets

Yessiree Bob! Pannikin is preparing some new goodies for you to adorn your clothes and home with. First up, Fun & Games fridge magnets!
These are created from vintage children's wooden dominos, with colourful and oh-so-cute pictures including roosters, lady bugs, frogs, ducklings and butterflies. I'm also planning on turning these into necklaces - if all goes well I'll let you know!

Next we have a new series of 35mm badges! The 'Spell It Out' range is a new favourite of mine, for a few reasons.

1. I can spell out almost anything! (For practicalities sake, I'll be keeping these to short words and phrases. Too many letters and your badge loses it's punch. No one likes squinting to see the design, trust me.)

2. You get an insight into my favourite words, which I seem to mentally collect day in, day out. Favourites include but are not limited to: nifty, gravy, cat lady, hand made, lame, super, neat and so on and so forth.

3. I can do custom work! Maybe you want to declare your love for tea, cookies or cats or feel the need to announce that you are amazing, cute, swell, dandy or all four? Send me an email and I'll do my best!

Both of these products will be available at the upcoming Valley Laneway Markets on Sunday 22nd August 2010. My stall will be located in California Lane, which can be accessed via McLachlan St, Fortitude Valley. The markets run from 10am til 4pm.

Please click here tobe taken to the Valley laneway Market website for more information and applications for those who would like to apply for a stall.

Our Adventures at the Marky Markets

Apologies for such a late post, being Thursday evening and all, but I'm sure you wouldn't mind me sharing a photo or two of the Marky Markets that were held on Sunday 15th August at the Hi Fi in West End, Brisbane.

I think next time I will make sure to take a LOT more photos of the whole market, stall holders and market goers. Sometimes it is just a bit too hard to drag myself away from the fun of stall-holding and take pics. Funny thing is, it's all too easy to spend a whole wodge of money on other fun things being sold by local creatives - especially if they are gorgeous fabrics and vintage buttons from Voodoo Rabbit and rad brooches by Polly Gone.

I was also having a great time sharing chit-chats with Svetlana of Lady Sveta and Amanda Whitelaw of Hungry Designs, not to mention sharing a quick little hello with Kiara Notaras and a few other stall holders who I am sorry I have forgotten the names of.

(Oh and I must mention the wonderfully fun chill-times and conversation with 'the boy', Mister Thomas Griffin, stall-buddy extraordinaire.)

MadeIt Blog Featured!

I was flicking through twitter on the bus the other day and saw that MadeIt had compiled a blog post on badges for sale on their site. I was super happy when I saw that my origami paper badges were included! Weeee! :)

Last Minute Preparation for the BiTM!

Yessiree, I'm doing last minute preparation for tonights BrisStyle Indie Twilight Market.

Don't worry, I'm all packed and ready to go with a whole wodge of fun things to sell, but this is the time where I have 3 hours left and wonder if I could churn out a few new products (I'm making stickers as we speak!)

So with my spare time I thought I'd quickly show off some snaps of the latest additions to the market bag. (Or should I say, Nanna trolley x 2?)

Fabric 25mm badges - The kawaii kitties are my absolute favourites!

Craft Talk

Craft Talk Badges (25mm) - Purchase these on Etsy or MadeIt
I've been getting back into drawing lately, which is rather grand because it's something I have always loved to do but since working pretty much full time I've found I have fewer hours to sit down and put pen to paper.

So when I have a bit of spare time, I've taken to drawing a few crafty items, which are scanned and printed out in mini size, and then turned into nifty little badges to wear on my coat. I hope you like them too. What's best is that there are more designs to come, yippee!

Pssst! Two packs of these craft-talk badges are available at Brisbane's in.cube8r.

in.cube8r

Good evening all. Just thought I'd quickly share with you some most wonderful news!

Pannikin now has a little home over at Brisbane's in.cube8r!

Today was the first day of stocking my little cube and boy was I excited. Since hearing about in.cube8r in Melbourne I had always wanted to sell there, but never went through with the whole 'interstate' thing. But now that a new one has opened up in Fortitude Valley I jumped at the chance.

Now, as there is already quite a large range of jewellery on offer, Vicki (owner/manager/all round lovely lady) has kindly requested some alternative items for me to stock - which is really great because it means I have to get out of my comfort zone and start selling more pieces that include my personal artwork. So far, my cube holds three different tote bag designs, two packs of illustrated badges (featuring crafty items!) and some postcards/notecards. Over the next couple of weeks I aim to add a new tote bag design, lots more postcards, fridge magnets and perhaps even stickers!
Now, I just realised I let myself waffle on a little too much, but as I said, I'm just a wee bit excited!
Oh, and I would also like to sneak in a big thank-you to my lovely boyfriend Tom for lending a hand with carrying all my bits and pieces, for the help with cube set-up and for being ever-so-patient with me when making just one last something-or-other.

For a bit of extra good news, I managed to swap my shifts around so that I can attend the Marky Markets! (If my application is accepted, of course!)

Jane's Lucky Chance

Office Gossip - Pair of 25mm badges

A few new ranges of 25mm badges are being listed this week.
The first range has been created from pages from a vintage book called the Monster Book For Girls and are the perfect way to add a bit of that retro pulp fiction vibe to your daily outfits.

The next range, She Blinded Me With Science, will revolve around everything to do with technology, computers and more whiz-bangs than you can poke a compass at. These designs (with even more to come!) have been taken from a children's encyclopedia from the 70's.

PS. What did everyone do for Valentine's Day?

Sadly, I had to work at my 'day job' and after arriving home, promptly fell asleep at 4pm. I was lucky enough to see 'the boy' for a few hours - which was spent watching a small portion of Mad Men and general chit-chat.

All In A Twitter

Yes, Pannikin has finally succumbed and joined Twitter. Follow me to stay in the loop, up to date and in the know about all the goings on of the label. Not to mention the possibility of sweet deals and discounts.

Click here to read my tweets.

Also, would anyone be interested in subscribing to a Pannikin mailing list, with weekly emails filling you in on what new products are in store, sneak-peeks, discounts, freebies and more?

If yes, then please leave a comment below - there is no need to supply your email as I am only seeing if this is something people would like to be a part of before going about setting it up.

Anyway, thanks very much for reading; I am off to create more badges as my parts arrived in the mail yesterday and I am absolutely itching to create more! (In fact, I was so excited I stayed up until 1am this morning cutting and punching out new designs, so check back in my Etsy shop soon for new pieces!)

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Valentine's Day!

25mm Badge Sets

I am little obsessed with making these badges. Seriously, badge makers are so much fun I think it should be something every DIY crafter needs. I just ran out of badge parts though, so it's going to be a short while until I can create more. But that's okay because I'm sure like most of you I have 100+ unfinished projects.

New Year, New Products

Hello all!
It sure is nice to be back in blogland. I hope you all have enjoyed your well deserved Christmas, New Years, work and school breaks.

Today I would like to introduce a new product to the Pannikin Etsy store - 25mm badges! Yes, I bought a badgemaker a few months ago and have gone a little button mad. After a lengthy session of creating these babies, my studio (aka my bedroom) looks like some kind of mini cyclone has ripped through it. But it's totally worth it, because the end result is adorable, if I do say so myself.

This morning I have uploaded the 'Wonderland' series of badges, which is made up of 5 pairs of unique Alice in Wonderland pins, all created with vintage Little Golden Book cutouts. Each set is only $5 US and come packaged all pretty like. (Photos of packing are coming soon, I promise!)
Please keep checking back, as I will be uploading different collections during the week. Some of these include pins made from kawaii Japanese fabric (with owls, squirrels, rabbits and more!), handprinted Japanese paper and of course, more adorable storybook images - think cats, deer houses and sweet little children.

Until then, have yourselves a lovely time. Don't work too hard!

PSST! Spend over $15 in my Etsy store to receive a complimentary 25mm badge, chosen at random. But rest assured that they will be just as cute as the ones for sale. Hey, you could even give it to a friend or relative for extra brownie points!
